It’s a late Friday afternoon in mid-March and Carlos
Santana is feeling inspired. Just 20 hours earlier a magnitude-9.0 earthquake rocked Eastern Japan, casting a pall on the day as newscasts cycled through stories of coastal flooding, leveled cities, missing persons and the threat of radiation escaping the nation’s nuclear reactors. To a man, the word “inspired” might sound a little incongruous given the nature of the events, but those who have spent any time with the 63-year-old guitarist, or have perhaps seen him perform in concert over the past two years at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, know that his faith in humanity is strong and his desire for peace, indefatigable.
