Las Vegas

After a mind-numbing, three-day road-trip across America, from Iowa to Nevada, I can wholeheartedly say that my drive to Las Vegas was not about the journey, but rather the destination. Through Nebraska, Colorado, and Utah, oh my, my thoughts wondered of what my new life as an account coordinator at Kirvin Doak Communications would entail. Sure, I was aware of the basic responsibilities and tasks required of me, but nothing of what awaited me.

Come Monday morning I was stricken with a queasy nervousness words cannot describe. All my anxiety-ridden body wanted to do was check in to a hospital, but alas, I did not know where one was, so off to work I went. After waiting a few minutes in the reception area, my boss burst through the door, “Christine’s here!” she exclaimed before giving me a hug. At that instance, I knew I would be OK and my worries melted away.

Within an hour and a half into my first day, I was off to help staff a photo shoot for BODIES…The Exhibition at Luxor Hotel and Casino. Driving down the sunny streets of Vegas, I was overcome with excitement and all I could think was I have the COOLEST job ever (and some serious new bragging rights for back home). My first week continued with early mornings and late nights in preparation for BODIES’ kick off of American Heart Month featuring a 600-pound heart sculpture to be paraded down the Strip that Friday. In the coming weeks, I contributed to the launch of Jewels of Titanic by creating invitations for our press preview, crafting a newsbyte, and even got to transport the priceless artifacts to an in-studio segment.

With each passing day at Kirvin Doak I become more thrilled and truly grateful to be working with the best, for the best. I absolutely love living in Las Vegas and look forward to discovering all it has to offer. My colleagues are bubbly, quick-witted personalities with a quirky interoffice rapport. So far, it has been a couple of months and a whirlwind of learning experiences. I am not exactly certain where my KDC career will take me, but I know this is just the beginning of an amazing adventure and this time, it is all about the journey.

Which one is Christy Miller?

Which one is Christy Miller?

Over the past few weeks the members of Team Terri have been sticking our noses into the lives of our fellow co-workers at Kirvin Doak. Having been here for almost six months, I have realized that there is still much to learn about the many faces of this amazing company.

I was fortunate enough to get the chance to speak with Christy Miller, a true Las Vegan. Having originally been born in San Luis Obispo, Cali, Miller moved to Atlanta, GA. When Christy was five years old, she and her family moved to the vibrant city of Las Vegas. After spending her life in Sin City, Christy went on to college and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Even at 26-years-old, I like to think I am just a big kid at heart. Instead of asking the traditional questions, I wanted to take this opportunity and have some fun with Christy. So here is an inside look at Christy Miller’s inner child.

JD:          What did you want to be growing up?

CM:        Optometrist, like my uncle & grandpa.

JD:          If you could be a fictional character, who would you be and why?

CM:        Mary Poppins, she is practically perfect in every way, imagination and fun first, to heck with health and safety.

JD:          Ben and Jerry’s would like you to create a new ice cream. What would you create and why?

CM:        Lactose FREE, so I could have some.  Then a combo of my favorite peach pie with Vanilla Bean, oh, and Grandma’s Cream! Why, because it reminds me wonderful times.

JD:          If you could go on a picnic, what would be in your basket?

CM:        Wine for me, beer for the hubby, water, cold pasta salad, fresh fruit, a soccer ball, frisbee, blanket and a good book.

JD:          If your life was a movie, who would you play?

CM:        Oh my, I’ve never thought about it, Meg Ryan.

JD:          What is the best gift you were ever given?

CM:        LIFE! I have two beautiful children and an extra special guy.

JD:          What is your favorite word?

CM:        It must be AWESOME; I’m told I say it all the time!

JD:          If you were immortal for a day, what would you do?

CM:        I want to fly like a bird in the air.

JD:          What songs are included in the soundtrack to your life?

CM:        It would have to be really eclectic, I enjoy it all, from The Sex Pistols to Tchaikovsky.

Here are some of the things on my nano: The Beatles, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Carly Simon, Carol King, Commodores, Donna Summers, Janis Joplin, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues,  Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Earth Wind and Fire, Ike and Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Erick Clapton, Bon Jovi, BB Kings, Quincy Jones, Curtis Mayfield, Billy Joel, Grover Washington, Rascal Flatt, Oakridge Boys, Adelle, Barbara Streisand, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Sondheim, Rogers and Hammerstein, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Jars of Clay, Mercy Me, Rich Mullins, Third Day, DC Talk,Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.

Dramatic re-creation of Maddie’s cross-country trip

Dramatic re-creation of Maddie’s cross-country trip

As is the case with many of us, fellow Kirvin Doak employee Maddie Meister moved here from out of the state.  I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Maddie and asked her about why she made the move, and how she was enjoying her job and new life in Las Vegas.

Maddie came to Las Vegas by way of Boston where she was interning at a PR agency after graduating from the University of Wisconsin.  She happened to notice a job posting from Kirvin Doak one day and thanks to a love for travel, decided why not!  Maddie’s soon-to-be team here at the agency was excited to offer her a position and before she knew it, it was time to pack her bags.  An adventure in and of itself, Maddie and her dad hit the road and drove all the way from Boston to Las Vegas.

Once here, Maddie found herself thrust right into the job….getting to work on the Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational.  In fact, her very first day or work involved a 6 a.m. call-time at the tournament. Two days after that, red carpet duty with the likes of Roger Clemens and the one-and-only Michael Jordan.

Over a year later, Maddie is loving her life in Las Vegas and job where she gets to work on several interesting clients including Hyde Bellagio, the D Las Vegas and SLS Las Vegas.  Outside of work, she has grown to love the mountainous landscape of the Las Vegas valley and greatly appreciates the lack of snow and ice storms in the winter.

kirvin bbb TD 44 of 163 - compressedOne of my favorite ways of really getting to know more about a person is putting them to the test of given extreme circumstances, which of the situations would you select as the lesser of two evils better known as “Would you rather…” For those who might be slightly unfamiliar with this, (although those select few are also the individuals who will not be reading this blog, as they are currently living somewhere in the middle of nowhere underneath a very large rock) you present a person with two situations – would you rather have situation A or would you rather have situation B? I have found this friendly party game offers insight into not only what people consider precious and valuable, but it’s also sometimes very humorous.

So, I had the opportunity to present the following Would You Rather situations to Kirvin Doak’s own Liz Lundstrum. Liz has lived in Las Vegas for a little more than 10 years and holds down the fort on media buying for a stellar roster of clients including Blue Man Group, Jersey Boys, Peepshow, Rock of Ages, Million Dollar Quartet, Absinthe, Nevada Mining Association, The Venetian, Wolfgang Puck and Golden Rainbow. Check out her answers to the following questions:

  • Would you rather live in an igloo for the rest of your life or live in a tepee for the rest of your life?

Liz doesn’t mind the cold. She answered: Igloo

  • Would you rather hear the good news first or hear the bad news first?

Liz answered: Definitely the bad news first.

  • Would you rather be fluent in all foreign languages or be a master of every musical instrument?

Liz answered: ALL the foreign languages

  • Would you rather win the lottery or live twice as long?

Liz debated on this answer, but ultimately came to the conclusion of: Win the lottery – I don’t want to live twice as long if I ran out of money.

  • Would you rather take a European sight-seeing vacation or take a relaxing Caribbean vacation?

Liz just returned from an awesome time in the Caribbean, but she answered: The Caribbean, I feel like I need to see more of it.

  • Would you rather watch a movie without audio and subtitles or listen to a movie without the picture?

Liz likes her visuals. She answered: Watch the movie

  • Would you rather always know when someone is lying or always get away with lying?

Clearly, Liz is an honest person. She answered: Know when someone is lying.

  • Would you rather be forced to eat your favorite food every day for the rest of your life or never be allowed to eat your favorite food ever again?

Liz likes what she likes. She answered: Forced to eat her favorite food every day for the rest of her life.

Care to know more about Liz and what she selects when faced with ridiculous and zany situations? Feel free to comment with your own favorite “Would You Rather…” question.

Until next time,

Shandi Huber

StephThere is no doubt that Kirvin Doak Communications is full of shinning stars and one of the brightest is definitely Stephanie Chavez. Stephanie is the fun girl in the office that can make you laugh but is also great at giving serious advice. If you don’t know her, you should. Overall, she’s pretty hilarious and just plain fun to hang out with.

When I found out I’d be interviewing Stephanie for this blog, I was extremely excited. First, she’s been at Kirvin Doak for a little more than three years and during she has always had a smile on her face. She has a great personality so I knew this was going to be a fun interview. Second, Stephanie is outgoing so I was eager to see what type of answers I’d get out of her.

  • How did she end up in Vegas?  “I followed my high school sweetheart” They’re still together by the way!
  • What jobs did she have prior to landing a job in Vegas?  “In college, I planned events and concerts at the University of Colorado in Boulder.”
  • What are some “I can’t believe that really happened” or “this isn’t real life” moments she has experienced since working at Kirvin Doak?
    • “Petting sloths at Wayne Newton’s house.”
    • “Meeting Buzz Aldrin.” (He also happens to be her celebrity crush)
    • “On a red carpet asking Heidi Montag (right after plastic surgery) what she was for Halloween. Her response, ‘myself’ and my response ‘you pull that off well.’”
    • What is her biggest life accomplishment? “Traveling overseas solo for six months. One of the best decisions in life.”
    • If she could do anything, what would her dream job be? “I’d for sure be an explorer.”
    • Where does she see herself in five years? “Happy.” In 10 years? “Happy.” In 50 years? “Owning a bed and breakfast surrounded by ridiculously gorgeous nature” and of course, “happy.”
    • If she could pick one moment in the history of the world to be at what would it be? “The moment the Earth was created. Because that would be epic.” Probably my favorite answer from her!

Since not everyone reading this blog will ever have the chance to meet Stephanie, I’ll suggest you follow her on Twitter at @LVStephanie. I promise you won’t regret it!

This is what you get when you ask The Doak for a picture. I like it..

This is what you get when you ask The Doak for a picture. I like it..

Almost a year and a half ago, I had my first day at Kirvin Doak Communication. I didn’t know anyone. I was SUPER nervous. I’d only been in Las Vegas for two days, and so far I’d felt perpetually lost. Needless to say, KDC seemed extremely intimidating. Yet, Bill Doak, one of our partners and partial namesakes, took the time to pass by my desk that morning and say “hi” to me. I’ll never forget it. There’s nothing like have a partner take the time out of his day just to welcome you.Needless to say, I was more than happy to sit down with Bill and learn more about him.

  •  Favorite Band: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
  • Side note: Bill shared that he and Dave recently went to a Bruce Springsteen concert together, but I was told it’s not quite the same as Alison and Lindsey’s Bon Jovi Day.

  • Role Model: “There are so many for so many different reasons,” said The Doak. They include Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and his father.

  • Favorite Holiday: Christmas.

  • Best Gift He’s Ever Received: His children. (Awww!)

  • Favorite Beer: Sin City Stout

  • Favorite Bar in Las Vegas: Tommy Rocker’s

  • What did you want to be when you grew up? Professional football player

  • Pinch question from Alison – How do you feel about having Dustin Hoffman as a doppelganger?  “A lot less better than being told you resemble George Clooney…”

  • Tell me about living in your office during a past job: “It was my second job out of college. I didn’t have enough money for an apartment, and I didn’t know anyone. My boss allowed me to sleep on his couch, and if I was working late at the office, I’d pull my blanket over me and sleep on the floor.”

  • BONUS! Best advice: “Never stop learning. The accumulation of experiences will ultimately make you a great professional.”

Kim pic1Kimbrlee Merrihew is the voice at the forefront of Kirvin Doak Communications. Almost always when media, clients or anyone in between calls our offices, Kimbrlee is there to answer. In addition, anytime someone visits our offices, she is there to greet them, so I thought it is only suiting to introduce her to everyone! In fact, upon sitting down with her, I realized we had a lot in common.

She is currently a student studying business and marketing. Like myself, she is a small town girl with big city dreams.

“I’m a hard worker,” said the determined student, “I don’t mind working my way up to the top.”

Kimbrlee grew up in a tiny farming town called Beaver Dam, AZ. Her family lived on a 500-acre ranch where she acquired her hardworking mentality and her family grew watermelon, cantaloupe, casabas, squash, apricots, tomatoes, apples and peppers (can you say, yum?). The only “attraction” in her city was a gas station that also included the town store, dancing hall and a lodge, so moving to Las Vegas was quite a change, but was absolutely perfect for her career path of course. Her dream job is in marketing and upon working at KDC, Kimbrlee has found an interest in PR as well.

“I’ve learned a lot about PR since working here,” said Kimbrlee, “One of the things that has surprised me most is that Las Vegas is in fact a community. It’s been a pleasure seeing all the nonprofits, fundraisers, special events and more that occur.”

This was an exciting discovery for Kimbrlee because the feeling of community was something “she truly missed” from the small town she grew up in, and of course we’re happy to have Kimbrlee part of our KDC community as well!

In addition to pursuing her dreams at college and taking our calls at KDC, Kimbrlee likes to run. She’s a fan of running 5Ks and is hoping to one day train for a 10K, half marathon and beyond.

Her favorite media outlets are NPR, Las Vegas Review-Journal and Las Vegas Sun

If she had to write a book it would have a historical theme with a fictional twist.

Her favorite movie is “Inception,” because it was very “trippy.”

Her favorite color is green and she has two adorable dogs named Leo and Marshall.

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with one of my favorite non-#TeamTerri coworkers, Erica Benken.  Ever since this lovely blonde graced the Kirvin Doak offices with her communicative talents and vertical prowess (but really, she’s stunningly tall), my personal and professional life has remarkably brightened.

I can attest: Erica is a complete blast to be around outside of the workspace, but she’s also an incredible resource to her clients and colleagues.  I’ve been out on the town with Erica, I’ve seen concerts with Erica, I’ve dined alongside Erica.  Yet because I’ve also experienced all of these things without Erica, I firmly understand the level of fabulousness that she contributes to these situations.  And it’s true.  Everything is better with a little Erica on it.  But even professionally, apart from her being a career woman that every PR hopeful (and current practicing professional) can learn something from, I know she is willing to help a fellow coworker whenever she can.  She’s been a saving grace to me before, and I’m certain she’ll continue to be just as invaluable to myself and others in the future.  Because at the heart of it, that’s who Erica is – a selfless, hard working, always-smiling, blindingly gorgeous soul.

In an effort to help the blogosphere get to know Ms. Benken a wee bit better, I compiled a list of 10 seemingly random questions that dutifully brought out the best in her personality, aspirations and inspirations.  I also highly recommend following her on Twitter/Instagram (@EBenken).

World, I present to you…Erica Benken:

1.  If you could bring one thing to the city of Las Vegas, what would you want to bring and why?

As cliché as it sounds, I would have brought with me my family and my friends. I have been blessed beyond belief to have this amazing job and to make amazing friends here, but if I could have my friends and family closer I would literally have everything one could hope for.

2.  If you weren’t able to work in PR or communications, what would your dream field/job be and why?

If I wasn’t able to work in PR, I would definitely want to be a Marine Biologist. I have always been fascinated by marine life, especially sharks and giant squids (such a nerd I know), and I think it would be neat to explore what all lies below.

3.  Let’s pretend you were going to start a magazine.  What kind of magazine would you want to create?  Why?

If I were to start a magazine I would create something similar to NYLON. I love the unique fashion trends, new music finds and areas of travel it highlights.

4.  If you had the capability to relieve the world of one current global issue, what would it be?

If I had the ability to relieve the world of one issue, I would relieve the issue of educational funding. There are so many cities and schools in the United States and around the world that don’t have enough funding for education, depriving children of the right to learn simply because they cannot afford it. EVERYONE should have the right to learn and go to school, and money should not play a factor in that.

5.  It’s your final day on earth.  You’re allowed one last meal with one last alcoholic beverage.  Please detail this feast.

Hmmm, this is a tricky one because I LOVE food. I would start with a Garbage Salad from Meatball Spot (best.salad.ever.), continue on with my mom’s famous Spaghetti & Meatballs (she’s full-blooded Italian and one of the greatest cooks you’ll ever meet) and I’d finish with a caramel macaroon from Bouchon Bakery at Venetian (they’re amazing!). For a cocktail I think I would have to have a “Little Hot Mess” from Commonwealth, my new favorite cocktail of choice (currently).

6.  Congratulations – you’ve just been given a $1,000,000 check!  The catch? You keep none of it!  Half of it needs to be donated to one organization/charity/cause of your choice. The other half needs to be donated to help stop the extinction of one animal species of your choice.  How will you disperse the funds?

Easy! First, I would donate half to the American Cancer Society. I have quite a few family members and friends who have battled various forms of cancer. I’ve seen how having funds to aid with research has done amazing things, and how having funds to research more in-depth could have possibly led to a different outcome. In regards to animals, I would definitely give the funds to aid in the care and procurement of tigers. They are such beautiful creatures and would be a great loss to our planet.

7.  Oreo has called you to develop a new cookie for them.  What cookie would you create?

How did you know oreos were my favorite??? Let’s be real, you can’t top an oreo; however, if I made Funfetti oreos, now those could be amazing :)

8.  If you could institute another national holiday, what would you want everyone to celebrate?

National Travel Day (or National Travel Week if it was possible!),  a day where EVERYONE has to leave town and venture somewhere new. So often we get stuck in our daily routines forgetting there is a whole world out there to see. Traveling to another country, or just to a city a couple of hours away, can be life-changing.

9.  What if something special could happen every time you entered a room?  What would you want to happen?

If something could happen every time I walked into a room, I would want people to smile, but genuinely smile with happiness. I think one of the greatest things you can do is bring a smile to someone’s face. Confetti is cool and applause can be nice, but bringing a smile to someone’s face is one of the greatest feelings one can experience.

10.  If you could spend a week in someone else’s shoes (dead or alive) who would you want to be and why?

This one’s hard for me. I think I would enjoy stepping into the shoes of Florence Welch. I am uber passionate about music, and there is something so enchanting about watching her perform. I would love to know the feeling of standing in front of a massive crowd, especially at a music festival such as Glastonbury or Austin City Limits, captivating people with the sound of my voice and getting them to sing and dance along with me. I think it would also be interesting to step into the shoes of Coco Chanel. I read her biography once and was inspired by this woman who began as a small town girl and developed an iconic reputation of class that still loves on.

After going through the hiring process a time or two, I realized that college students and recent grads might not be getting the best tips on applying for jobs specifically in the public relations field. Here are my top 10 suggestions for getting your foot in the door towards your dream career in PR:

  1. Timing. I remember being in college and being told to start looking for jobs your senior year, most likely even as you go into your last semester. That might be a good fit for engineers or account majors, however, this is not true for most PR jobs. When I post an opening, I needed that position filled yesterday. I can’t wait five months until you wrap up your final semester, I can’t even wait two months. I need you ASAP. So look for jobs much closer to graduation, and if you want to put feelers out there beforehand, do introductory emails rather than applying for open postings.
  2. Internship. Nothing is more powerful in this field than experience. Even if your degree doesn’t require it, get an internship. Heck, do two. You will be a step ahead of the competition with the more you have on your resume.
  3. Cover letters. If you don’t have a lot of experience through internships or class work, don’t even think about applying without a cover letter. Take that opportunity to show your writing skills, give examples of how your own experiences would apply to the tasks at hand, and show your personality. An exciting cover letter can even be more convincing than a loaded resume.
  4. No phone calls. You sent in your resume and you want to follow up to ensure it was received? Don’t call. PR professionals have a lot on their plate and are almost always working around the clock. As mentioned before, when we post a job, we often need that person right away so we’re handling the workload of two, if not even more. Trust that we got it. Do not call immediately after hitting submit. If you listened to the first three points, then you’re already a leg up and we’ll take notice.
  5. Social media. By now almost all college kids or recent grads are told to lock up their social media accounts tight. After all, no one wants to hire you based on your keg stand photos from the latest frat party. When it comes to Facebook, I totally agree. But for Twitter, I would say leave it open. As a hiring manager, I want to see that you’re active on Twitter and get some insight into your personality. Keep in mind that future job hunters will be on the lookout, so keep it PC or start a second account that’s more professional if you must. But showing you have knowledge of the platform and giving a peak into your personal life isn’t always a bad thing if handled correctly.
  6. Research. It should be a no brainer to look at the company’s website before doing an interview, but go even beyond that. Follow the hiring manager on Twitter. See what they’re posting about their clients and what opportunities they are participating in to determine if this is really the right job for you. Bring up stories they’ve secured in your conversation. Send them a tweet even! One Iowa State (my alma mater) grad tweeted me for advice on a job in Las Vegas. I had her send me her resume, and I remembered her and passed it along when my colleague was hiring. She’s now a year in at her job at Kirvin Doak. Congrats to Wendy Sloan on her recent promotion to an assistant account executive!
  7. Read the news. Our jobs are all about what’s happening in the media and how can we get our clients’ message heard. One of my favorite questions to ask is where do you get your news and tell me something you read/heard/saw today. And college students, here’s a tip: no one believes you’re reading the New York Times. We were once 22 ourselves after all. Don’t be afraid to say you read blogs or follow newspapers on Twitter. This is the digital age, and we want to know you’re on the up and up!
  8. Show your personality. You got an interview. You’re in the door. Now show your personality. A big part of this field is how you interact with people. I want to know you can be professional but still have fun. If I’m spending a day with you driving across California to visit newspaper editors, I need to be able to carry on a conversation and be comfortable chatting in between work discussions. Make me laugh, and I’m much more likely to remember you.
  9. Ask a question. No matter what, when the hiring manager asks, “Do you have any questions for me?”, always have one or two in your pocket. Not asking a question makes it seem like you have no interest or you weren’t paying attention. Ask why this position is now available. Ask what the challenges will be. Ask how they lead their team. Ask anything. It will benefit you in the long run.
  10. Say thank you. Personal cards are great, but a lot of times companies are in such a hurry to make a decision, they won’t arrive beforehand. So always, always, always send a thank you via email after your interview. Remind them why you’re the person for the job. Make it impossible to say no.

Good luck in your search and I hope these tips help you get a leg up on the competition!

Where do I begin? I could never have imagined 2012 would have started and ended the way it did. It has been the most exhausting, exhilarating, thrilling and all around most awesome year to date. There is no way this time last year I could have guessed that I would have learned and experienced so much personally and professionally. Seeing as a lot has happened this year, I’ll give you the very short version.

January – Roommates

I became a roommate for the first time in four years i.e. I moved in with my boyfriend. I’ve learned a lot from this experience mainly that compromise makes for a happy home….and he is terrible at folding laundry.

February – Mötley Crüe in Sin City at The Joint

February will forever be known as Mötley month. Why? Because Hard Rock Hotel & Casino hosted the first of what we like to call our mini-residencies. That’s right, 12 epic shows and I was there for almost all of them. The band was super nice and the show was incredible. Now I can proudly say, I’m a fan.

March –New Car

I finally decided that it was time to get rid of my two-door 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 and become an adult. Luckily when my parents came in town so they were able to help. I now drive a beautiful black sparkly (can’t be too much of an adult) 2012 Ford Fusion.

April –Mike Tyson: UNDISPUTED TRUTH – Live on Stage

The LEGENDARY Mike Tyson performed a limited run at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and I was lucky enough to work on the account. Wow! All I can say is wow! First, almost every stereotype I’ve heard about Mike is wrong. He is one of the sweetest people I have ever met and he loves his wife and family more than anything. Second, the show was amazing. It was a raw story of his life. Mike shared many unknown stories about his public triumphs and turmoil.

May – Growing team!

Devin and I welcomed our new team member Laura Bucklin in May! Laura has been a great addition to our team.

June –Golden Rainbow’s “Ribbon of Life”

Through the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a ton of celebrities and working on major projects. As much fun as it is to say “I met (insert famous person),” nothing can describe the way it feels to know you are making a difference. I love working with local nonprofit Golden Rainbow and knowing they’re helping men, women and children in Southern Nevada living with HIV/AIDS.

This year Golden Rainbow hosted its 26th annual “Ribbon of Life” production. Approximately 1,630 attendees filled The Smith Center theater as 380 performers from the best Strip shows and entertainment companies took the stage in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The record-breaking show raised more than $200,000, exceeding last year’s total by $50,000.

July –Olympic-themed birthday party

When your birthday overlaps with one of the biggest events in the world, it is only appropriate to make everyone dress in red, white and blue. Go USA!

August – Vinyl at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino has a reputation for knowing rock ‘n’ roll and doing it well. In August, they opened the beautiful and gritty music venue is known as Vinyl. The small intimate venue has already welcomed acts such as Chevelle, Yellowcard, Blaqk Audio, Switchfoot and more!

September – Planning and Pitching!

The entire month of September was dedicated to planning, pitching and learning. See below, you’ll understand.

Oh yeah,  I also ditched my blonde hair and became a brunette.

October –A Very Blue October

No, not the band…literally it was a very blue October for me. After months/years of planning, we opening Blue Man Group’s new show at Monte Carlo Resort and CasinoBLue Man Group makes giant leap to new theater at Monte Carlo Resort and.... To kick things off, Blue Man Group skydived into their new home on Wednesday, Oct. 10. That night, I jumped on a plan and flew to Los Angeles where we had a whirlwind “media week.” In LA, we appeared on “Access Hollywood,” ESPN’s “Sport Center,” “Nacion ESPN,” KEARTH FM and performed at the UCLA vs. Utah game at the Rose Bowl. On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Blue Man Group did a Satellite Media Tour and a sneak peek for local Las Vegas media and VIPS. Later that week, we hit up all local Las Vegas TV and radio stations… I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

November –Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Democracy at The Jointin Las Vegas, NV

I worked with Guns N’ Roses, how many other people get to say that? November was definitely an exciting time for me. Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Democracy at The Joint kicked off with a lot of excitement, we even temporarily renamed the street in front of Hard Rock from “Paradise Road” to “Paradise City Road.”The band was fantastic to work with and the show was one-of-a-kind!

December –Looking forward!

As great as 2012 was, I’m very excited for 2013. Cheers to another fantastic year!
