Saturday was the 1,000th performance of JERSEY BOYS at the Palazzo. It’s a remarkable show enjoying a remarkable run. Check out Trip Advisor’s ratings here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g45963-d1081728-Reviews-Jersey_Boys-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html  if you don’t believe us.

To celebrate the milestone, the show held the Walk Like A Man Shoe Drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada. The plan was to give away 1,000 tickets to Saturday night’s show for 1,000 pairs of shoes to benefit underprivileged kids in Las Vegas.

The first ones in line arrived at 5 a.m. Seven hours before we started passing out tickets. By 10 more than 1,000 were in line, which began snaking into the Palazzo casino. By 11:30, it wrapped around the casino and headed into the Venetian. More than 3,000 turned out for the tickets. Many showed up, saw the line, handed over their shoes and said, “Thanks for doing this. We’ll try next time.”

Shoe Drive Benefit for Boys and Girls ClubThe initial 1,000 tickets were gone in 38 minutes. Then the producers of JERSEY BOYS did something extraordinary: they gave the green light to another 1,000. Then more after that. Las Vegas has embraced JERSEY BOYS since opening night, so it was the show’s turn to embrace it right back. If you brought shoes to help a child, you were getting a ticket. Maybe not Saturday night, but some night.

The spirit of giving carried over into that night’s performance. The crowd was electric and the show ran long because the applause after each song wouldn’t stop.

The officials at the Boys and Girls Club said that very often self esteem starts with shoes. It’s hard to feel good about yourself in old, worn-out shoes. Beginning this week, at least 3,000 kids will start feeling better about themselves, thanks to Las Vegas and JERSEY BOYS.

On this, the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, we want to tell you just how much we at KDC love trees, air, the environment, and all that stuff.

Did you know that KDC is a green company? For years, we’ve encouraged environmentally friendly behaviors both in our personal efforts and those of our clients. Our firm has invested in energy-saving lighting and other equipment in our offices and we are very proud of our ongoing recycling efforts. In 2009, those conservation efforts saved:

  • The equivalent of 37 trees
  • More than 13,500 gallons of water
  • The energy equivalent of 188 gallons of oil
  • 7,482 kilowatt hours of electricity
  • 26,276,390 BTU’s of energy

In 2009, KDC recycled:

  • 7,942 pounds of paper
  • 92 pounds of plastic
  • And more than 60 pounds of aluminum

By remaining focused on Earth-conscious priorities, we have continued to acquire 100% recycled office supplies, in spite of the sometimes higher cost. Our vendor reports that 65% of our purchased materials were considered green purchases in 2009.

So, basically, we love trees… and parks… and ponds… and canyons… and we do our best to keep these natural wonders in tact for all of our benefit. Here’s to an eternity of clean energy and sustainable living. Cheers to Earth Day!

There is no doubt that CityCenter is one of the most significant projects in the history of Las Vegas. Chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE, Jim Murren had this to say about the public relations effort on the project:

“Global earned media has been tremendous for the launch of CityCenter…over 1 billion global impressions…our PR team has done a tremendous job.”

Thanks, Mr. Murren. It was our pleasure to be part of what was truly a team effort. See more about the opening of CityCenter and what it means to this community by watching this video of Jim Murren on ARIA’s opening day.

Terry Fator selects winners of KDC Costume Contest

Terry Fator selects winners of KDC Costume Contest

It would almost be understandable, as busy as we all are in these times, to allow a slightly frivolous tradition to slip. You get busy. There’s only so many hours. There’s always next year.

Which is what made Friday at KDC so great.

For the last several years, we’ve made Halloween our holiday. Each team decorates their part of the office, the costumes get broken out, someone famous stops by at lunch to judge our costume contest and our kids and those of our friends go office-to-office trick-or-treating.

We could have let all the things on our collective to-do list temper this year’s celebration. But no way. The costume contest was bigger – and more inspired – than ever. Our special Celebrity Guest Judge was Mirage headliner  Terry Fator, who took his role seriously and couldn’t have been nicer.

Debbi Medsker as Mrs. Potatohead took top honors, followed by Ashlee Miller as Winston the Puppet from Terry Fator’s show (taking “sucking up to the judge” to new heights) and Judy Chappell as a wicked pirate taking third. We also had an awesome Kenny Powers (Brad Seidel) a fashionista nun (Claudia Cogburn), some evil surgeons (Kala Peterson, Lindsay Rathjen and Melanie Shafer), “Blackmail” (a very clever Liz Lundstrom), Jamie Oliver The Naked Chef (Bonnie Smith) and two frat boys who used their costume as an excuse to have beer (Craig Nyman and Matt Guidish).

Young trick-or-treaters came by to make Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkinhead toys and put their hands in some brains and innards and eyeballs. And they made off with a lot of candy, too. Take a look at the photos. Yes, it actually was as much fun as it looks. And if you’re in the neighborhood next year, stop by. It will only be better.
