This is the true story…of 30 strangers…picked to live in Las Vegas…work at KDC and have their lives followed on Facebook and Twitter…to find out what happens…when people stop putting off their dreams…and start getting real…The Real World: Las Vegas.

Okay I admit—I am just as skeptical as the next person when it comes to “reality television,” (although I do get down with my girls from Real Housewives of Orange Country and let’s be real, when Keeping Up with the Kardashians is on I can’t look away from the TV, ah, but I digress…) But for some reason as I transitioned into my brand new life here in Las Vegas, I could not get The Real World’s opening theme out of my head!

It was something straight out of a movie, I swear: girl applies for job, girl graduates college, girl moves home for five days, girl gets job offer, girl hops in the car and high-tails it out of Missouri three days later.  And I’m driving through the flatlands of Missouri and Kansas (one road…the whole time…girl, don’t even get me started), the mountains of Colorado, the valleys of Utah, the red rocks of Arizona and finally Nevada and it all came rushing towards me at once: This is my life.

Throughout college we are led to believe the “real world” is scary—full of mortgages and bills and credit scores and car problems and in-laws and someone pour me a glass of wine already…  We are taught the real world is hard and we should try to stay in college forever.  But in my three brief weeks as a Las Vegas resident, I can already tell the “real world” is incredible.  It’s full of places to go and people to meet and events to attend and learning to cook and can we please talk about how fun it is to decorate an apartment?!

I can’t believe that this is the real world—and to be honest, I don’t know what we were all so afraid of in the first place.  Living?

So this is my “real world”… this is my true story of a young girl picked to live in Las Vegas and work at KDC and have my life followed on Facebook and Twitter, to find out what happens when I stop living in the Midwest and start getting real with myself.

Stay tuned,

Camille

As I’m sure most of you know, today is World Sauntering Day. In light of this wonderful holiday, I would like to encourage you to take things easy today, and enjoy yourself. For those of you who are not aware, sauntering is a style of walking. It is not the act of sashaying or trotting, but is more of a slow walk with a joyful disposition. Normally, this action takes place outdoors where one can enjoy the natural aromas that Mother Nature has produced, without being rushed from one place to another. Some of us may not get the chance to saunter in the outdoors today, so I have come up with a plan. This morning, I would like everyone to light the candles at their desks, and take a joyful stroll around the office to take in the artificial smells at everyone’s cubes. Who knows, maybe this will spark some light conversations with people you have been itching to talk to, but no pressure, saunter at your own comfort level. I wish everyone joyful and stress free day! Happy sauntering!

In honor of the kickoff to EDC Week here in Las Vegas, it only seemed fitting to write about five things I can’t wait to experience or see at this year’s festival.

1. The Ferris wheel:  A major component to creating the carnival-like atmosphere is the amusement rides. I am not a sucker for thrill rides as I am terrified of heights and don’t care for anything that moves at high speeds, but I am definitely looking forward to taking in the Speedway from a new angle; high above the grounds from a seat on the Ferris wheel.

2. Art: My obsession with art and decorating is apparent to anyone who knows me. Though the art at Electric Daisy is not something that you can put in your living room, it is one of the most unique aspects of the festival that helps transform the Las Vegas Motor Speedway into another world. Festival goers will get to see everything from brightly colored misting flowers, to fire breathing serpents and for the ultimate sneak peak, check out this article from [Rolling Stone.] – Please hyper link  http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/blogs/gear-up/electric-daisy-carnival-amps-up-its-art-20120518

3. Roaming entertainment:  I have been sitting on interviews for the last week about the roaming entertainment at this year’s festival and boy, do they have some fabulous things planned. Most of which are a secret but expect nearly 500 artisans walking around the grounds, interacting with fans, dressed in one-of-a-kind costumes that will truly make it seem like you are stepping out of Las Vegas and into an imaginative world.

4. Discovery Project: Like most artists around the globe, all you need is that one big break and your talent can be exposed to the masses. Insomniac is helping garner attention to up-and-coming artists through the Discovery Project. Producers submitted a sample set and the lucky winners will get the chance to play live on the Discover Stage during EDC Vegas. How cool is that?

5. Night Owl Experience: You’ll just have to come to EDC to find out just what this entails….

Signing off for now!

Every college grad dreads that one question, “So, what are you doing now?”

My family couldn’t believe me when I told them I was moving to Las Vegas. I got the job offer call three hours before my graduation party, which was perfect, because I finally had an answer to that horrible post-graduation question!

A common reply to the news was, “Moving to Vegas! To do what? Be a showgirl?” I would then sarcastically reply with, “How’d you know?” then explain to them where I’d actually be working, Kirvin Doak Communications.

I was due to move in merely two weeks. Moving from small-town Iowa to Las Vegas has been a big change for me. I used to live in a town of 1,200, and now all a sudden I live 24 hours away in “the city that never sleeps!” This adventure has brought about a lot of “firsts” for me in the last week…

The drive here was quite eventful. My parents rented a Penske truck to move all my belongings. After they had already rented it and paid for it, they took a look inside. There were only two seats for the three of us. They broke the news to me as I was saying goodbye to my friends one last time at the pool.

I said, “Great, I’ll fly out to Vegas on Friday and have more time with my friends before I leave!”

My mom quickly replied with, “Oh no, you’re enduring the drive with us. I’ll just buy you a bean bag and put it between the two seats.”

I thought to myself, “Is this real life?”

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I sat on a bean bag or the last time I sat on a bean bag and enjoyed it. Despite these unfortunate issues, I drove in between my parents for 24 hours from Iowa to Las Vegas, NV on a bean bag. Bet you can’t say you’ve ever done that- there is truly a first time for everything!

The “firsts” don’t stop there. This past week, I bought my first new car! I said “hasta luego” to my trusty 1999 red Cavalier in Iowa because I have driven that car since I was 14, it had over 200,000 miles on it and it did not have air conditioning- I thought all these reasons were completely valid. Therefore, I’m very excited to say I’m a proud owner of a new Nissan Sentra!

I also had my first week at KDC. Everybody has been very nice, supportive and helpful on my transition to Las Vegas and into my new job. With the assistance of Devin Daniel and Lindsey Rathjen, I’ve already done a bunch of stuff for Team Terri, and I’m very excited to continue learning from them- Devin even guided me as I drove for my first time on the Strip, which was not as bad as I anticipated.

Last but certainly not least, I celebrated National Doughnut Day for the first time today at KDC, and I really hope it’s not the last.
