Congratulations to Adam Sperling, tournament director, and his staff of the Justin Timberlake for Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on a fantastic tournament week that ended with a three-player, four-hole playoff with Jonathan Byrd winning it all with a hole-in-one – the first time ever a PGA Tournament has been decided by an ace on the final hole.

The golf was great, but what the sponsor and benefactor of this tournament does is the best story.   The Shriners Hospitals for Children
is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.  The work that the Shriners do in these hospitals save lives and changes them forever.

There are more than 500 children with Las Vegas ties today that are being treated at hospitals under the Shriners’ umbrella. Three of those patients Sasha Murray, Gianni Bohorquez and Alissa Perkins joined us at the tournament this year and shared their miraculous stories with us. Read more about them and their story in Ed Graney’s column from Sunday’s Las Vegas Review-Journal (here).

So, yes, Jonathan Byrd made an heroic shot Sunday, but the real heroes were those that support Shriners Hospitals.

Congratulations to Sin City Brewing Co. and our favorite Brewmaster Rich Johnson for one of his delicious recipes being included in Las Vegas Weekly’s list of best Las Vegas beers. The magazine listed Sin City Weisse, which is Sin City’s wheat beer, as one of the nine best in town. Sin City Brewing Co. has three locations in Las Vegas – Miracle Mile Shops, Grand Canal Shoppes and The Flamingo, and four microbrews to choose from in addition to the Weisse: Sin City Amber, Sin City Light and Sin City Stout. Plus Johnson is known to throw a seasonal beer in when the mood suits him. Try one – or all four – you won’t be sorry. See the full story here.
